Including a surgeons, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and psychologists. Our Cochlear Implant Programs are open to both children and adults. A cochlear implant is a device which provides useful hearing and improved communication abilities for individuals with severe to profound hearing loss, who gain little or no benefit from hearing aids.

How does the cochlear implant help?

The implant provides the function of the damaged or absent hair cells by providing electrical stimulation to the remaining nerve fibers. The device consists of a microphone, a sound processor, a transmitter, and an implanted electrode array.

Process for cochlear implants

Following a comprehensive evaluation to determine if the adult or child is expected to benefit significantly from a cochlear implant, the candidate receives counseling and then proceeds with:

  • Surgery
  • Implant activation
  • Rehabilitation

Referrals are accepted from any source and patients are advised to check with their insurance carriers to determine procedures for coverage for the cochlear implant candidacy evaluation.
